The late Max Carlos was a star of the boxing ring.
In the early 1950s there was a teenager boxing at the Shepparton Boys Club gymnasium who went on to become a household name throughout the Goulburn Valley.
He was an Australian champion boxer and Shepparton’s first Olympian, boxing in the 1956 Melbourne Olympics.
Carlos turned professional and won the Lightweight Championship of Australia.
He became a boxing referee, and also instituted the Shepparton Sports Star of the Year award.
