Naylor started competing in the school athletic sports during her secondary school days and later moved to Melbourne to attend university, where her love of athletics was fostered.

Her success saw her compete at national events and Australian championships, specialising in 400 metres running events.

Naylor was the first track and field female athlete to represent Shepparton in Olympic competition.

She was a Commonwealth Games gold medallist, World Championships bronze medallist, Australian representative in World Cup athletics, and also competed in the Atlanta and Sydney Olympic Games.
